Sažetak
Large concentration of fishes in The Adriatic Cretaceous are always found in thin-bedded platy limestones where the thickness of layers is usually between 1 and 5 centimeters. The sites at Labišnica and Prapatnica in central Dalmatia (Senonian) coluld be ascribed to the environment of rather small depression within the platform area with wackestone/packstone platy limestones with oligosteginids (Calcisphera, Pithonella) and calcitized Radiolaria at wery low frequence, and chert nodules. This platy limestones indicate inner carbonate platform environment wich had marked communication with open seea during drowening platform phase. The fish-bearing Turonian platy limestones at Primošten (the Grbe site) would certainly represent another depositional environment. These are typical shallow marine intertidal-subtidal-lagoonal limestones (algal packestones with stromatilitic (cryptalgal) laminae and fenestral fabrics, thinn laminated pelletal and skeletal packstone, wackestone and grainstone. Fossil fishes at these sites have been found both as intact, well preserved specimens and as fragmentary remains. The sediments consists predominantly of organic substances. The taphocoenoses forming in this environment consist of complete or fregmented dead plants and animals belonging to constitutional types of the nekton and plankton. This biofacies usually develops in more or less enclosed basins without bottom circulation or in areas where upwelling causes an abundant supply or organic material.
