Sažetak
Local industrial systems have developed in a nnumber of countries and in specific local conditions but the point common to all of them is the complex development area occurring bottom-up and tending to full employment of subjective and material potentials. The aim of this research is to find similarities between the industrial district (locally embedded economic system) as a development model confirmed in modern highly developed economies and in the tourist destination as a system essentially bound to a concrete area representing not only its development framework but also the integral part of the entire destination product. This analogy will make us search for a long term pattern suitable to the tourist destination as a locally embedded economic system. The logical solution will be the concept of sustainable development, the basic principles of which are in harmony with the principles governing the functioning of tourist destination.
