Sažetak
The diversity of Zinfandel, its unique variety aroma and affordable price have added to the popularity of this cultivar in America where it has been identified as one of the most important red wine grapes. The recent research results, based on DNA analysis, indicate that Zinfandel has played an important role in numerous crossing events between native Croatian grapevine varieties. The discovery of a vine genetically identical to Zinfandel in a vineyard in Kaštel Novi on the Dalmatian coast of Croatia has ended the controvery surrounding true origins of Zinfandel. This famous Californian grape is indeed an old Croatian variety, forgotten but not completely extinct in its original homeland.
