Sažetak
At the turn of the century, the people of Croatia found themselves in a very difficult situation, with very unfavourable demographic trends, processes and structures from the long-term viewpoint that become more and more the dominationg limiting factor of a stable and progressive social and economic development of the country. It results from the cause - effect conditionali and from various "internal" and "external" patterns of the demographic development, many of which have taken or are still taking a destabilising effect on the development the Croatian population. The current development of the population in Croatia is characterised by the process of a general and natural population shrinking and ageing, namely as a long-term, global demographic process, and by the process of a partial shrinking of population conditionel reproductively and generatively.
