Sažetak
This paper, first, brings the analysis of the emergence and development of GIS and its importance in the functioning of the economic system and of the social system in general. Upon that follows the analysis of the fields of implementation of GIS so far. With respect to the possibilities of integrating regional data with existing classically presented data, there is special analysis of the importance of GIS in strategic management. Emphasis is put on the need to create regional planning data bases and to continue with the research founded on these data bases. Finally, there are some notes on the possibilities and requirements of GIS implementation in Croatian firms.
