Sažetak
During this investigation the stomata number per sq. mm of leaf surface and the size of stomata cells of three oak species (Quercus robur, Q. frainetto and Q. cerris) were studied. The largest number of stomata was counted on the leaves of Q. frainetto (367/sq. mm), a smaller number on the leaves of Q. cerris (294/sq. mm) and the smallest on the leaves of Q. robur (264-268/sq. mm). There was often a negative correlation between the stomata cell dimensions and the stomata number. Q. frainetto had the smallest stomata cells, Q. cerris somewhat larger, while Q. robur had the largest ones. These fluctuations show that the number and dimensions of stomata in the species studied result more from the influence of ecological factors (especially of sunshine) and less from inheritance.
