Water content and water deficit in this year's and last year's leaves of six evergreen woody Mediterranean plant species (holm oak- Quercus ilex L., olive- Olea europaea L., laurel- Laurus nobilis L., viburnum- Viburnum tinus L., pittosporum- Pittosporum tobira Dryand. and oleander – Nerium oleander), their variations and variation amplitudes were studied a 12 month period. The leaves were collected from the plants grown at the Marjan Hill and the examinations were performed using the standard methods. The least water content and the highest deficit of water were found in the holm oak (Q. ilex) leaves, while the highest water content and the lowest water deficit were registered in the leaves of oleander (N. oleander). This year's leaves of all plant species investigated had higher water content and lower water deficit than last year's leaves. Maximal water content and minimal water deficit were observed in May, while minimal water content and maximal water deficit were registered in July. Variations in water content and water deficit were negatively correlated in all plant species studied. Besides the xeromorphic structure, the climate and edaphic factors influenced both water content and water deficit.
