Sažetak
The Velebit region, the mountaion as well as its hinterland and littoral is known as Morlacca (or Morlakia, Morlacha, Murlacha) on the maps dating since the early modern period. Those are the maps originating from different imperial and cartographic traditions of the time, including maps of the best known Croatian cartographers. The name has been used always for the same region in general, although it has had somewhat different meaning in terms of the size or the range of the region. It is obvious that specific and complex frontier circumstance from 16.-18. century created such a strong perception of the Velebit region as the land of Morlacchi.
