Sažetak
The region of Turopolje is considered on the basis of cultural-ecological conceptual framework, through the functional interrelation between its natural environment and the technology of exploatation i.e. the food production in the sense of subsistence, as well as with the demographic variables and sustainable development. The analysis of the environmental features shows the complementarity of the productive territorial unit of Turopolje. It consists of i. e. includes the fluvial plane of the river Sava and the hilly complex of Vukomeričke gorice which have enabled the subsistence economy. Consequently, Turopolje is the natural and logical productive unit which creates the basis of primary determination of traditional territorial unit, through conditioned subsistence, followed by different types of territorial organization and corresponding socio-cultural identity.
