Sažetak
Equipped with a special display as a part of the dashboard, many new automobiles of Japanese and American manufacturers provide their motorists trough Internet with more and more information related to travelling, traffic congestion, but also the sport results or nearest shopping centers. With the help of good and simple equipment and the link of the "smart" car-Intelligent Transport System With the Net, the data on the nearest hospital, garage or free parking place, become available to the motorist by simply pressing a button. Apart from the comfort provided by ITS, it simultaneously insures also greater driving safety. Greater safety is due to automatic control and driving veichle diagnostics. This approaches caused fundamental changes of some of tke guidelines regarding maintenance activities. During the recent years, an increase of diagnostics activities in the process of maintenance could be noted. It is known (the data from the 90s) that diagnosing activities account for 35% and more of the technical maintenance activities, these have to be defined already during the veichle design and construction phase, with minimum costs and veichle downtime. This means that the diagnosing availability, working comfort, and continuous collecting and registering of data related to technical condition have to be provided and improved. Until ITS appeared the qualitiy of mantenance was thought to lag behind the qualitiy of manufacturing motor veichles. Some authors claimed that due to untimely identification of failures, the whole volume of maintenance costs increased by 50%. It may be mentioned also that well developed diagnosis can increase, for example, the engine operation until general overhaul by 2-2, 5 times. At times when car manufacturers basically produce more or less the same veichles, this is one of those remaining areas in which special characteristics and the sense for individuality can come to the fore.
