Sažetak
The aim of this work was to determine whether cardiovascular patients have a satisfactory intake of dietary fibre (DF). Thirty three patients (22 women and 11 men, average age 49.8 yr) took part in the investigation carried out in April and May 2002. A control group consisted of 37 subjects (28 women and 9 men, average age 47.7 yr). DF intakes were calculated from the collected FFQs. The patients had a significantly higher DF intake (g/day ; soluble dietary fibre p<0.01, insoluble dietary fibre p<0.01, total dietary fibre p<0.01) compared to the control group. The mean total dietary fibre (TDF) intake in the group of patients was 30.9 g/day. The intake expressed on the energy intake was also higher in this group (p<0.05). The groups also differed in food sources of DF intake. Vegetables, including legumes were a dominant source of TDF, making 44.9% in patients and 42.7% in controls. On the other hand, patients had a significantly lower fraction of TDF from cereal products (33.7% vs 40.2% in patients and controls, respectively). The established adequate DF intake in the patients might help prevent deterioration or a relapse of their cardiovascular condition.
