Sažetak
Aim ; To highlight the harmful potential of the paraformaldehyde pulp tissue devitalisation procedure. Summary, Three clinical case reports are presented to ilustrate the three stages of periodontal tissue damaga caused by inappropriate use of paraformaldehyde paste for devitalisation of the pulp tissue. In the first case damage was confined to the interdental papilla. In the second case, necrosis of the superficial part interdental cortical bone was present. Total necrosis of the periodontal tissue around distal root of lower molar with its loss was the third and most severe consequence of the paraformaldehyde abuse. The treatment in all cases was removal of the necrotic part of the tissue and weekly control of healing. Due to difficulty in assessing the depth of paraformaldehyde penetration the treatment was repeated. Key learning points. - Devitalisation of the pulp tissue should not be used because of severe outcome in periodontal tissue. - The problem of marginal sealing of provisional fillingshould be considered when dealing with teeth treated by devitalisation, so examination of periodontal tissue should be done. - Treatment of periodontal tissue necrosis is removal of necrotic tissue with frequent controls till sign of healing appears
