Endocrine and metabolic paparameters and histomorphology of the thyroid gland and liver were investigated in the pigs fed variable amount of OO-rapeseed meal, to estimate the metabolic and healthy status of organism in ralation to growth performance. Pigs fed RM had enlarged thyroid gland and liver, but their serum concentrations of T4 and T3 were not significantly decreased. Thhis suggests that hyperplasia of thyroid gland can compensate the negative effects of RM. Cholesterol concentration in the serum of these pigs was normal, what is also indicative of sufficient thyroid secretion. The negative effect of RM growth performance and feed utilisation was not observed. Moreover, the groups of pigs fed RM had a better gain in body weight, which corresponded with higher levels of total proteins, glucose and insulin. This can be consequence of higher protein and energy intake, since 2 percent rapeseed oil was added in each of RM diet. The results suggest that 6-8 percent OO-rapeseed meal can be satisfactory in the diet of growing pigs and 8-10 percent in the diet of finishing pigs. Although the increase in weight of liver and the thyroid is significant, on the bases of some metabolic and hormonal indices as well as of growth performance, can conclude that there are no essential pathological changes harmeful for the health of animals.
