Sažetak
The goal of the empirical research was to question – what situations create a pleasant or an unpleasant environment in a Croatian school – the children's perspectives? The conclusion of this research is that emotional coloring of school grades in Croatia represents a hidden message for children, incorporated into the school culture by creating the class atmosphere, by which the society expresses recognition and acceptance, or punishment and non-acceptance, in spite of the fact that school grades are an indirect and relative indicator of children's advancement and do not represent the measure of (un)successfulness.
