Sažetak
Each year of the analysed period, there is a smaller incidence of methemoglobinamia: in January 1983. there were 44 cases, compared with only 8 cases in May 1991. The incidenece is always greater in males then in females (with the exception of the year 1991., when there were 2 girls more them boys). The methemoglobin concentration in blood in most cases ranged 1-5%, although some extreme values have also been detected, even over 70%. It is evident that methemoglobin blood concentration is always greater in summer (6-9%) than in winter months, with a clear maximum in September. The possible initiator of toxic and aquired methemoglobinemia in children living in the city of Osijek might be increased nitrate concentration in food and drinking water in the period of intensive agricultural activities (summer).
