This paper describes features of marl from Eocene flysch in the urban area of Split. It also shows the physical-mechanical features (unit weight, porosity, compressive and tensile strength, cohesion, friction angle, CaCO3 content, vp velocity) compared to parameters essential for civil engineering calculations (Youngs modulus, shear modulus and Poissons ratio). The The Geotechnics of Hard Soil - Soft Rockssignificance of field and laboratory research for building purposes has been discussed and a way of defining RQD index in thin-layered marl has beenproposed.
