Sažetak
The biology of Roule's goby, Gobius roulei (De Buen, 1928) in the Kvarner area (northern Adriatic Sea) was studied over a 12-month period. Specimens were sampled from May 1996 to April 1997, using SCUBA. The fish attains a length of at least 87.5 mm and an age of 7 years. In both sexes gonad development begins in the second age class. All males are mature by their third year of life, and females by their fourth year of life. Fecundity is length dependent and varies between 1200-1800. The breeding season lasts from April to August. Nests are built under empty shells of Pitaria chione or stones. G. roulei is a predator and picker, feeding mostly on mobile benthic fauna. The main food components among diverse diet of G. roulei are Bivalvia, Gastropoda, Polychaeta, Paguridea, Mysidacea, Gammaridae and fishes. Larger specimens eat mainly macrofauna, while smaller specimens eat both meiofauna and macrofauna.
