Sažetak
The goal of the paper is to estimate the significance of income and other variables of nine tourism-generating countries for Croatian tourism. If the price of tourism is held constant, the hypothesis that is being tested is whether an increase in the income of the origin country would result in an increase of tourism demand in Croatia, testing that tourism is a normal good. OLS method is used and three tourism demand models are specified. The most important research result is that the normal good hypothesis does not hold for German and Austrian tourists. Previous research also indicated that these markets started to decline before the 1991 war and, by now, may have reached saturation. Dutch tourists have the highest income elasticities suggesting the need for future research of this market. Results need to be interpreted with caution due to a small number of observations.
