Sažetak
Purpose: To evaluate succes rate and visual outcome after penetrating keratoplasty in children. Methods: Retrospective study was made in children that underwent corneal transplantation at our department between 1994 and 1999. patients age range was 6 to 16 years. 25 corneal transplants were performed in 24 eyes. Corneal pathologies were: leucoma corneae (n=6), congenital distrophy (n=4), corneal combustion (n=4), corneal scar and perforative injury (n=3), keratokonus (n=4), corneal melting (n=2), hematocornea (n=1), and rekeratoplaty (n=1). Follow up was at least 6 months postoperatively. Results: The 1-year survival rate of grafts was: leucoma corneae 50 %, congenital distrophy 75 %, crneal combustion 33%, corneal scar after penetrating injury 50% and keratokonus 75 %. Hematocornea and rekeratoiplasty ended in graft failure. Postoperative visual acuity improvement was recorded in 14 out of 25 eyes. Conclusion: penetrating keratoplasty in children has a resonable chance of surgical succes. In children with old corneal processes concomitant amblyopia affected final visual outcome
