Sažetak
In the first contribution the role of Knin in Roman period is considered. Under Roman rule Knin was a military stronghold surrounded by veteran settlements and other outposts of the Roman army. Central role had a legionary camp at Burnum. It is more than probable that in the early 2nd cent. AD, when at Burnum was constituted new municipium, that Knin and much of its area was included into its territory. In the second part the author discusses a problem of Ludrum, reportedly the see of a diocese in the 6th century. Many authors support an old hypothesis connecting Ludrum with Knin. This author argues that if Burnum is considered to have been under jurisdiction of the bishop of Scardona, the same should be supposed for Knin, as a part of Burnum territory. Location of Ludrum remains unknown. The third part contains a brief discussion on Lab, the name of the southern part of formidable Knin fortress during the Middle Ages. It is proposed to interpret the name as Croatian borrowing form Latin labes, meaning precipice, not a rare naming of Late Roman fortifications in Dalmatia.
