In this paper presented are data and conclusions related to: The introduction of smallpox inoculation and Edward Jenner's method of smallpox vaccination in Croatia ; State Public Health Policy and introduction of obligatory cowpox inoculation in Croatia ; Further developments of smallpox prevention-introduction of animal lymph as a vaccination substance in Croatian medical practice ; Legal and normative determinants of establishment of The Institute for production of animal lymph vaccine against smallpox in Zagreb in the 1893/94 period ; Early experiences and new challenges in smallpox prevention in Croatia in the 1918-1940 period.
