Sažetak
This study aimed to compare smoking abstinence outcomes between outpatients with comorbid schizophrenia and nicotine dependence and those with comorbid schizoaffective disorder and nicotine dependence ; to perform comparison at two different time points ; to explore differences in treatment outcome between two groups. Subjects comprised of 76 current outpatients—40 with comorbid schizophrenia and nicotine dependence and 36 with comorbid schizoaffective disorder and nicotine dependence, according to DSM-IV. Each patient received outpatient nicotine dependence consultation/treatment by a trained psychiatrist. Abstinence at 3 and 6 months was evaluated on the basis of self- and family-report. Results: At both time points, the difference found in the abstinent rate between the two groups was not statistically significant (p1 = 0.3571, p2 = 0.3473). The difference in abstinent rate within each group between the two time points was likewise not statistically significant (p1 = 0.6347, p2 = 0.6521). No significant difference in treatment outcomes of nicotine dependence comorbidity between outpatients with schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder was found.
