Sažetak
Buildings in Croatia are designed for the seismic actions according to the "Technical codes for design of buildings in seismic regions" (HRN 31/81). The efforts are being made that Eurocode 8 becomes valid in Croatia. As EC8 is its transitional phase from pre-standard to standard it is also important to point out to some of its potential weaknesses.
The differences are evaluated among the reinforced-concrete frame structures designed according to the present HRN code and EC8 in design phase and their simulated non-linear earthquake response. A comparisons between the two codes are made according to the: required design time; easy/complicated for an ordinary design engineer; required dimensions of the structural elements; required materials usage and costs; non-linear seismic response of the modeled buildings; design/expected forces and achievement of the design aims.
Outlined research had an aim to review the completion, to point out potential problematic areas and the need for calibration of EC8 to the Croatian market and state-of the-art in the civil engineering construction practice.
