Sažetak
The paper presents optimisation of the axial-radial impeller design by numerical modelling of the flow, with the goal to improve efficiency. Design of the axial-radial impeller of centrifugal compressor, obtained by complex graph-analytic method, automated by using adequate user software, in the further design process is analysed by numerical modelling of flow in channels by user software. On the basis of the obtained distributions of velocity, pressure, temperature and density in the channels, which are simultaneously indicators of energy conversion quality, the optimisation of design is performed by necessary change of channel shape: e.g. the blade curvature is changed with the aim of preventing separation of the flow i.e. improving the efficiency of energy conversion. The numerical modelling is repeated until achieving the maximal possible increase of efficiency of energy conversion. On the end, the final impeller geometry is checked by numerical modelling on the strength and the estimated technological properties. In this way the set iterative procedure of impeller design improves the quality of energy conversion i.e. increases the efficiency and mechanical safety of centrifugal compressor, which will result in the decrease of total costs of maintenance of equipment.
