Sažetak
Beekeepeeing is traditional profession on the whole territory of Croatia, and it has been mentioned in the earliest writeen documents.Traditionaly, in Croatia stationary beekeeping dominates in comparison to movable (62% and 38% respectively). There are approximately 6.700 beekeepers with more than 220.000 beehives. In use dominate modern (LR) beehives (%%, 72%), but traditional AŽ hives are still numerous (44, 28%). For years, queen breeding in Croatia was not quite developed and was left to beekeepers without supervision of any scientific or professional organization. At the beginning of ninetis, organization of queen breeding and selection started. Progeny and performance testing of queens started during middle ninetis. Simultaneously, different scientific projects covering biology, breeding and selectioin of bees were carried out. Nationalfunds for scientific programs are quite small, therefore several international scientific projects were carried out, covering the use of bees in studies of different ecological impacts, honey quality analyses, varroa tolerance and bee breeding and selection.
