Sažetak
Neuroblastoma is the most common extracranial solid tumor in children and account for 7-10% of all tumors before the age of 15. Tumor markers ferritin and NSE (neuron-specific enolase) correlate with clinical stage and have predictive value in neuroblastoma. Unfavorable prognostic factors are: ferritin concentration > 142 ng/ml, NSE concentration >100 ng/ml, older age and amplified N-myc. Tn this study we showed results from 17 patients with neuroblastoma treated at the Children's Hospital Zagreb in the period of 5 years.Patients were divided according to clinical stages II (n=5), III(n=7), and IV(n=5). Ferritin was measured in all patients at the time of diagnosis, before the 2. cycle of chemotherapy, at the end of chemotherapy and 3 months after. NSE was measured in 16 patients at control examination 3 months after the last cycle of chemotherapoy. The aim of the study was to compare ferritin values at the time of diagnosos, during and after chemotherapy, and compare ferritin and NSE values in different stages after chemotherapy. At the time of diagnosis significant difference in ferritin concentration was found between stages II and III (p=0.030, Mann-Whitney test). Chemotherapy showed no effect on ferritin values (p>0.05, paired t-test). Spearmen correlation test showed no significant relationship (p>0.05) between ferritin and NSE values. These are only preliminary results and further studies involving higher numbers of patients are requred for explaining the role of these markers in neuroblastoma.
