Sažetak
In the present study personality characteristics of physical educators were investigated. The aim was to examine their personality profile (actual characteristics)and compare to the profile of an ideal teacher of PE, according to subjective evaluations of 34 experts from the field of sport, PE and kinesiology.The study included 76 PE teachers (Nm=40, Nf=36)from different primary and secondary schools in Slovenia, aged between 24-58 yrs.The Big five Observer (BFO)(Carpara et al, 1997), derived from the Big Five model, assessed the actual and preffered personality. It measures five dimensions: energy, agreableness, conscientiousness, emotional stability and openness. Raw results were calculated into T-values and t-test was conducted to compare the actual and preffered personality structure. The results showed that personality structure of actual and ideal PE teacher differ significantly ; in comparison with participants, an ideal PE educator should have equally expressed agreeableness 8p<0.39), while other four dimensions should be highly expressed (p<0.00). If we assume that sport pedagogues are active co-creators of pedagogical process, the results of this study have an practical value as they could serve as guidlines for the planning of their vocational education.
