Sažetak
A comaparative study of three different technologies for nitrification and denitrification is presented based on three year pilot plant experiments, the first involving the convnetional predenitrification system, the second using a fixed biofilm biomass on moving carriers and the third using a mixed culture capable of simultaneous nitrification and denitrification at the heterotrophic level. The conventional predenitrification process at a hydraulic retention time of 7 hours in sommer time and 12 hours in winter time gave the results for total nitrogen elimination of 57 % and 53 %, respectively, with NH_4-N reduction of 56 % and 84 %. The results show that fixed biofilm system consisting of two anoxic and two oxic stages with a predenitrification configuration and a hydraulic retention time of 5 hours at sommer temperature and 12 hours in winter time is capable of total nitrogen elimination of 42 % and 58 %, respectively, with the reduction of NH_4-N around 75 % and 94 %. The simultaneous process of augmentation using specialized mixed culture at hydraulic retention time of 5 hours in sommer and winter time gave the results for total nitrogen elimination 49 % with the NH_4-N reduction of 79 %.
