Sažetak
In cities there constantly exists the problem of great number of feral pigeons, Columba livia domestica, which causes material damage and at the same time represents a potential threat to human and animal health. This research on distribution of feral pigeons has been carried out in order to establish the actual number of feral pigeons in Zagreb, so that on this bases some steps could be taken to reduce and control the level of feral pigeon population. Researches were carried out during June in 1991., 1992., 1995., and 2001., from 7 to 10 a.m. The results obtained from this research have shown that the feral pigeons can be found all over the city, but mainly and in the greatest number in the city centre which can be explained by the presence of city markets which provide food for feral pigeons and were people themselves use to feed them. Besides, buildings and city architecture in this city area provides a lot of shelters for feral pigeons, e.g. uninhabited attics are ideal places for their nests. It has also been noticed that during last few years more and more feral pigeons can be found in suburb areas of the city, especially in the vicinity of rubbish heaps.
