Sažetak
Urinary albumin excretion (UAE) is associated with cardiovascular mortality in subjects with type 2 diabetes mellitus. We investigated the relationship between UAE and intima-media thickness of the common carotid artery (IMT-CCA) in 146 subjects with type 2 diabetes patients with following characteristic [ range min-max (median)] : age 43-65 years (57) ; diabetes duration 1-34 years (7), HbA1c 3.97%-14.82% (7.63%), UAE 2.1-297.2 mg/day (60.30). Twenty-seven patients had microalbuminuria (UAE 30-300 mg/day), 119 normal UAE (less than 30 mg/day). B-mode ultrasound was used to assess the IMT-CCA. Immunoturbidimetry was used to measure UAE. Spearman Rank Order test revealed correlation of IMT-CCA and age (p<0.01), diabetes duration (p=0.014), total cholesterol (p=0.008), serum FFA (p=0.022), HbA1c (p=0.038) and UAE (p=0.03). Subjects with microabuminuria tended to have greater IMT-CCA than those without microalbuminuria [ 0.70-2.07mm (1.10) vs. (0.70-2.00 mm (1.07)], Mann-Whitney U: p=0, 315. A stepwise forward multiple regression revealed that age and log UAE could explain 21% variability in IMT-CCA (age: beta-coefficient 0.374, SE 0.07, p<0.01 ; UAE: beta-coefficient 0.22, SE 0.08, p<0.01). These results suggest that microalbuminuria in subjects with type 2 diabetic patients is associated with IMT-CCA
