Sažetak
The first part of the study provides a description and statistics of the status of enterprise privatization in Croatia. It provides, separately for privatized and state-owned enterprises, time series data on: (i) their numbers ; (ii) the sectors to which these enterprises belong ; (iii) their employment ; (iv) their equities ; (v) (v) their value-added ; and (vi) their profitability. The text also provides information on the ownership structure of these enterprises. The second part of the study compares the performances of state-owned versus privatized enterprises, looking on a sectoral basis at: (i) growth rate of value-added ; (ii) changes in labor productivity (with labor productivity measured as value-added/employment) ; and (iii) profitability. Conducting the analysis on a sectoral basis helps control for the other important factors that affect enterprise efficiency, namely the extent of competition in, and the market structure of, the sector.
