Sažetak
High resistance to wear, particularly to abrasion and tribo-chemical wear characterizes carbide layers formed by diffusion process. Thicker layers of carbides can be produced if compared to the processes of deposition coating (CVD, PVD). Since the costs of the required equipment and conduct of process itself are significantly lower than in the case of deposition coating, diffusion formation of carbide layers has interesting commercial advantages in processing structural parts and tools exposed to severe abrasion wear. Applying developed duplex process, which includes carburisation and diffusion forming of carbide layers, additional technical and economical advantages are gained, since the layer carburised in the preceding step contributes to the significant acceleration of the process of subsequent forming of carbide layers and generation of &#8220 ; case hardened&#8221 ; inter-layer, beneath the carbide layer. Technological parameters of the process are calculated and optimised applying mathematical model and computer software that has been developed. They are essentially dependent on the chemical composition of the treated metal substrate, since the existing carbon participates in the formation of the carbide layers at the surface. Examples of application of vanadizing (formation of vanadium carbides) and duplex process are indicating the efficiency of both processes, producing significant improvement of the abrasion resistance and tribo-chemical wear. Thus service life of structural parts and tools applied in different technical systems or technologies is increased.
