Sažetak
Polypropylene is, during its application and usage, like many other polymer materials
exposed to various influences, witches, in the course of time, lead to irreversible chemical and physical changes, known as ageing. Fastness of a material to various weather and thermoclimatic influences, has become an important criterion in choosing the material for an end-use, as this property enables the user to set the limits of stress the material can take. Changes on standard-type PP-fibres, caused by artificial ageing on Xenotest and by exposing them to weather conditions in urban and rural environment, have been compared. In order to characterize the samples processed, the cintent of the hydroperoxide groups has been determined, the influence on thermal degradation of the fibres investigated, and surface changes photographed using scanning electron microscope.
The investigations indicate that the changes that occur in natural environment are much more intensive than those occurring during artificial ageing for the same duration.
