Sažetak
The investigation of standard polypropylene fibre weathering, with the material protected from direct sunlight and exposed to pollutants in the areas of various degree of air-pollution, have indicated changes in the fibres caused by such a treatment. Indications of the damages and changes that occur in the process of weathering are the reduction of isotacticity index, reduction of breaking strength and breaking twist, as well as an increase in the concentration of hydroperoxide groups.
The rate of the changes in mechanical properties and structural characteristics is faster in urban than in rural area, except when the samples are not protected from direct sunlight, so pollutant influence is overshaddowed by the aggressive influence of UV part of the sunlight.
