Sažetak
In the present paper data coming from the research project on determinants and consequences of single parenthood are presented. A total of 815 parents, 408 single parents and 407 parents from intact families, participated in the study. Subjects from single parent and two parent families are compared regarding their attitudes toward single parenthood and perceived social support from different sources. Attitudes toward single parenthood were measured by a newly formed scale that included items describing single parents and their children. In addition, subjects expressed their opinion about different types of single parent families. Different indicators of social support were also examined. Subjects rated their satisfaction with the support received from familial and extrafamilial sources, they named persons that most frequently supported them financially, practically and emotionally, and they completed a scale that measured perceived social support. Data will be presented with regard to a possible difference between (1) parents from different types of families and (2) mothers' and fathers' attitudes and perceived social support. In addition, the link between sociodemographic characteristics of families examined and parental attitudes will be discussed.
