Sažetak
Farm Women have been 'othered' in both academic research and wider society. As a way of giving them voice, farm women and the work that they do in Slavonia is investigated in this study. Qualtitative interviews with these women revealed their perspectives, identities and positions and this paper attempts to present farm women's understandings. Cocooned in a rural space where there are prevailing patriarchal attitudes during a difficult recession period, findings quite clearly show that it is difficult for farm women to resist the social pressures to participate in the activities that dominate the village subsistence economy and culturally define sociality. Understandings of the 'ideal' woman and her 'proper' place are also discussed.
