Sažetak
The intraventzricular cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) pressure is measured in animals fixed in stereotaxic apparatus in sphinx position with reference to interaural line. However, control data of CSF pressure in cats vary between various laboratories from 4 cm H2O to 20 cm H2O. We assume that such variability might be due to different distances between the head holder and the base of stereotaxic apparatus on which the animal body is positioned. To explore this assumption we measured intraventricular CSF pressure in chloralose anesthetized cats with head fixed in head holder. The interaural line was taken as zero pressure. Under chloralose anesthesia CSF pressure was stable one hour in animals fixed in sphinx position. Selected distances between the head holder and the base of stereotaxic apparatus were 7 cm, 12 cm, and 17 cm, while CSF pressures of 11.9+/-2.8 cm H2O, 7.7+/-1.6 cm H2O and 4.7+/-1.8 cm H2O (n=7), respectively, were recorded. Analysis of this results indicates that there is a negative linear relationship (r=-0.99) between CSF pressure and distance between the head holder and the base of stereotaxic apparatus. Since in previously published papers this distance is not mentioned, our results suggest that great variability of control CSF pressures was due to different distances between head holder and the base of stereotaxic apparatus duriong CSF pressure measurements.
