Sažetak
The minimal length at first maturity, as well as L50 and L100 of sardine, Sardina pilchardus (Walb.) were estimated. Length-frequency and gonad data (ripe, spawning, spent, with semi hydrated and hydrated oocytes) of 470 sardine specimens were analysed during the peak of sardine spawning period - in December 2002. Sardine specimens were caught by beach seine (mesh size 7 mm) in the Krka River estuary (43o 45'N ; 15o 45' E), which is a nursery ground of the small pelagic fish species. Total length of sardine specimens used for obtaining the lowest size of its sexual maturation ranged from 7.0 to 12.0 cm and weighed from 1.77 to 11.18 g. Mean length was 9.54ą0.7713, modal length was 9.5 cm, and mean weight was 5.44ą1.4458. The minimal length at first maturity of these fish species was 7.1 cm (total length), L50 was 8.0 cm and L100 11.5 cm. Highly significant correlation was found ( r2=0.9537 ; SD = 0.9766).
