Sažetak
The objective of this study was designed to evaluate the diagnostic potential of TNF- alpha in saliva. The study group is consisted of 20 patients of oral lichen planus and 20 healthy persons. After informet consent had been obtained and medical, denture and social histories collected, each individuals expectorated 10 ml of unstimulated saliva into a sterile centrifuge tube. The saliva was centrifuged and clarified supernatant was separated into 0, 5 ml aliquotes and frozen at -70 degrees until used. Cytokine concentrations were determined using enzime linked immunosorbent assay. Statistical significance for differences between groups were determined by student t-test. TNF-alpha was significantly higher in the patients with oral lichen planus than in normal patients. A unifying hypothesis for the involvement of TNF-alpha in the immunopathogenesis of oral lichen planus is presented.
