Sažetak
“Being well” and “doing good” are important to every person, no matter the life period or living environment. Within positive psychology, well- being is most often defined as a dichotomous construct composed of hedonic and eudaimonic well- being. Hedonic well-being aims at pleasure and satisfaction, and eudaimonic well-being is oriented towards the achievement of self-goals, authenticity and intrinsic growth and development. Tourist trips have become a part of modern lifestyle, and individuals undertake them for various motives in order to achieve hedonic and eudaimonic well-being. For this reason, the social dimension of tourism is often considered in the context of positive psychology. At the same time, tourism destinations strive to improve the well- being of the local community, which is most often associated with the economic impacts of tourism. However, due to overtourism, the negative impacts of tourism, especially ecological and socio- cultural, are increasingly visible in the local community. It is also clear that tourism destinations strive to develop according to the principles of sustainable tourism. One of the aspirations of the concept of sustainable tourism is to ensure the well-being of all stakeholders at the destination, considering social, ecological and economic factors. From this aspect, it can be determined that sustainable tourism is partly based on positive psychology and the concept of well-being. However, research in tourism mainly follows the hedonic direction of well-being, while empirical research on eudaimonic well-being is scarce. Accordingly, the goal of this paper is to connect eudaimonic well-being and sustainable tourism. Through the analysis of the aforementioned concepts, the constructs of the theoretical model were determined in the paper. The connection between tourist activity and mediators in this model shows a potential contribution to eudaimonic well-being and sustainable tourism. Testing this model in a tourism destination can serve as a basis for stakeholder cooperation and sustainable destination management.
