Sažetak
Operating systems like Windows, Android and others have their own lifespan in which they receive various upgrades and security patches. At the end of that lifespan, manufacturers stop sending updates and security patches, which makes the operating system vulnerable and open to various security threats. Also, there is no obligation to notify device users about the end of support. If they do not receive a notification, a large number of users will not know that their computer, tablet or mobile phone is vulnerable - and precisely those users who are not IT professionals will not have this information and most users are not informed, which becomes an issue because according to Directive 2011/83/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 25 October 2011 on consumer rights consumers should always be informed about their options. The paper will investigate users' awareness on the issue of operating system obsolescence, and this issue will be discussed in light of the European consumer protection framework.
