Sažetak
The most suitable approach to children as a vulnerable group is to combine protection and assistance based on information shaped through their participation according to age and cognitive abilities. Such an approach is not adequately reflected in the practices of different countries, including Croatia, despite being established in documents such as the Convention on the Rights of the Child. By observing children in the healthcare system, it has been established that their vulnerabilities intersect, i.e. different areas of vulnerability support one another and consequently increase the vulnerability. This paper deals with the exercise of children’s participatory rights in the Croatian healthcare system by giving an overview of children’s status and their vulnerabilities, as well as an overview of the relationship between protection and participation. Based on such a review and the results of the first research on the children’s participation in the healthcare system in Croatia, this paper provides recommendations for fostering children’s participation in the Croatian healthcare sys­tem.
