Sažetak
This article examines the impact of intersectionality theory on international human rights organizations and analyses their methods to addressing intersectional discrimination. Intersectionality is an inclusive and comprehensive approach that takes into account multiple intersecting forms of discrimination and oppression. It recognizes that individuals may experience discrimination and marginalization based on various factors such as gender, race, ethnicity, age, disability, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, and more, and that these forms of discrimination are interconnected and can compound the disadvantages faced by individuals and groups. This approache aims to promote more inclusive and equitable outcomes and to address the root causes of discrimination and marginalization. Despite still being perceived as new and controversial, the concept is gradually gaining traction beyond academia and activism, finding its way into policy instruments of international human rights organizations. Notably, monitoring mechanisms of international human rights-specific treaties and the United Nations Special Procedures have begun to acknowledge in past decade intersectional discrimination and have made noteworthy steps in highlighting the experiences of women for different social groups facing multiple or intersectional forms of discrimination (migrants, national minorities, victims of trafficking, victims of gender-based violence, Roma, etc.). By incorporating an intersectional approach, these human rights mechanisms and mandates assist in ensuring that laws and policies consider the diverse experiences and needs of women and girls. The article argues that human rights organizations must more actively embrace intersectionality as a policy framework to effectively address the complexities of all women’s rights violations. By insisting in applying intersectional lens, these organizations could contribute to better understanding of the interconnected nature of discrimination based on gender and encourage State Parties to develop more inclusive and comprehensive strategies to combat violation of women’s rights.
