Sažetak
Public passenger transport is often considered a safe mode of travel compared to other modes, such as the private car. However, safety is one of the fundamental features of any transport system, including public transport, both from the point of view of passengers and operators. The paper contains an analysis of traffic accidents in the area of the City of Zagreb, based on the database of the local city public transport operator, Zagreb Electric Tram - ZET, for a period of ten years. Traffic accidents in the tram and bus system were analysed according to: type, place and time of occurrence, their frequency on individual tram and bus lines, working hours and the age of the driver. The aim of the work is to create a statistical analysis based on historical data on traffic accidents that will be used to define the degree of safety or risk of an accident, with regard to all traffic indicators, and accordingly define the necessary measures for the prevention and reduction of the number of traffic accidents involving public transport vehicles.
