Sažetak
Natural capital is the world's stock of natural resources, which includes geology, soils, air, water and all living organisms. Some natural capital assets provide people with free goods and services, often called ecosystem services. All of these underpin our economy and society, and thus make human life possible. The presentation has been included the next parts: (1) Geography, geology, climate, (2) Groups of islands in the Adriatic Sea, (3) Croatian islands and islets, (4) Biodiversity of some taxonomic groups, (5) Conclusions. Flora, vegetation and various marine organisms are important parts of the natural capital of the islands and Croatia as well. The components of biodiversity and the ecosystem services they provide are even more important on islands as vulnerable places. Islands are subject to disturbance influences: (1) Small populations and economies, strong impacts of tourism, (2) Vulnerability to natural disasters and climate change (sea level rise, etc.), (3) Fragility of terrestrial and marine ecosystems.
