Sažetak
Higher education organisations, especially the ones offering business type of education, are trying to offer as authentic as possible undergraduate student experiences. One such experience is working in teams and performing well as members or leaders of the teams. This study uses two vocational colleges, one in Dubrovnik, Croatia and the other in Krems, Austria to compare and contrast the perceptions of students towards team leadership and effectiveness. The survey was conducted among students of the tourism and management programme. The sample is made up of a total of 47 participants. The results suggest that there is no significant difference in the perception of team leadership among the two colleges. Likewise, students perceive communication to be the most important factor. Finally, there is significant difference in the perception of the effectiveness of virtual teams, where the Austrian students perceive it higher than the Croatian students. Based on the results, it is suggested to introduce changes to the way how teams are being formed and how to assure that team-based work remains a valuable experience to the students.
