Sažetak
The in situ experiment of a collision between a train and a vehicle on a level crossing was conducted for the first time in Croatia. It was conducted under realistic and controlled conditions, at a passive level crossing in an agricultural area, and then a computer simulation was created in the PC Crash program. The primary goal of the experiment was to enable the collection of valuable technical data about the accident, the reconstruction of the causes and the analysis of the consequences of the traffic accident and to determine and quantify the cause- and-effect relationships between the speed of the vehicle and the resulting damage, as well as the impact of the forces in the collision on the occupants of the vehicle. However, in addition to the engineering goal the experiment had both an educational and preventive character. The results of the conducted experiment will be presented as its contribution to education and prevention of risky driving across the level crossing.
