Sažetak
As from 2003 UNESCO organization via its Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage has started forming the lists of Intangible Cultural Heritage across the world with the aim to preserve, maintain and promote important cultural elements for present and future generations. The most influential is UNESCO Representative list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity followed by the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding. In this paper I would like to discuss the number and content of intangible cultural heritage from Georgia (4) and Croatia (17) that entered the mentioned lists. Namely, I will discuss the role of Christian (Catholic) values that shaped those elements and to compare the Georgian and Croatian elements on the lists. Both countries have deep historical and cultural ties to Christianity which are reflected in their diverse intangible cultural heritage. But when comparing Croatian and Georgian intangible cultural elements it is worth noting that neither of four Georgian cultural elements on the lists relate to Christian values while at the meantime Croatia has 6 of total 17 elements that are connected to religious values. In this paper I will argue that Croatian political elite in 2010s used UNESCO’s lists to additionally shape the Croatian cultural identity insisting on usage of Catholic values after the era of communist rule until 1990 and The War for Independence in 1990s. Additionally I will raise a question why Georgia, the nation which is much older than Croatia, with longer ties with Christianity, with more culturally and historically diverse elements, and similar “experience” with communism, didn’t manage to enter on UNESCO lists (more) cultural elements connected with Christian values. Under the Soviet (communist rule) 1921 - 1990
