Sažetak
By increasing the efficiency of the conversion process combined heat and power production is a way to increasing sustainability of development. The Kyoto Protocol flexible mechanisms are a good market tool for global warming effect cost internalisation, while SOX trading scheme existing in some developed countries can be used as a proxy for acid rain cost internalisation. The mathematical model for simulation and cost optimisation of the thermal power plant operation was upgraded to interiorise the market cost of CO2 and SOX by addition of a penalty function. The heat demand must be satisfied, while the production of electrical power depends on the balance between the cost of electricity, cost of the fuel and the emission costs. It is shown that when the penalty functions reach a threshold, it becomes uneconomical to produce maximal amount of electrical power. Therefore, the optimisation algorithm set its production at the minimal value for the considered configuration and boundary conditions. At the same time, due to lower fuel consumption, the CO2 and SOX emissions were decreased. Internalising the external cost caused by emission in this way will thus increase the sustainability.
