Sažetak
In recent times, the interest in the Korean language and culture has risen tremendously, with more people than ever studying the Korean language. This thesis suggests that the reason behind the sudden rise in popularity of the Korean language and culture is due to the mass worldwide consumption of content produced by the South Korean entertainment industry, primarily Korean pop music and Korean drama shows which are gaining international momentum with popular groups such as BTS, TWICE, BLACKPINK etc., and shows such as “Squid Game”, and “Crash Landing on You”. This thesis researches the learnability of the Korean language by analysing and describing its grammatical components, which include morphology, word structure, writing, etc. whilst also giving attention to the psycholinguistic perspective towards language learnability, and my own experience with learning the Korean language. The Korean language is the national language and official language of North Korea and South Korea, spoken natively by around 80 million people. It belongs to the Koreanic language family and has its own writing script called “Hangul” which is deemed phonetic. The linguistic characteristics of Korean, together with the appeal of the Korean music scene which follows its own regulations, work ethic, presentation, and singer-fan relationship and its friendliness to the international audience due to inclusion of English words in song lyrics, and Korean drama shows that often feature a Cinderella type of storyline, with the trendiest stars that fit the Korean beauty standard, are hypothesized to be the contributing factor to the popularity of the Korean language.
